The enemies of God have tried to do throughout the history of the Church. If persecution hasn’t been constant neither has it been wholly absent from the life of the Church from the time of the Apostles to the present day. While the mechanism has changed, the powerful of this world will always try to get people to deny the evidence of grace and so turn their backs on God.
